~ EARTH DAY EVERY DAY!

THAT’S WHERE I FIT IN

I am a drop of rain, life on earth depends on me

All living things are made of me, that’s where I fit in

I am the changing moon, life on earth depends on me

The cycle of life centers on me, that’s where I fit in

I am the blazing sun, life on earth depends on me

I am the source of energy, that’s where I fit in

I am the atmosphere, life on earth depends on me

I provide air to breathe, that’s where I fit in

I am a mere earthworm, life on earth depends on me

I enrich the soil you see, that’s where I fit in

I am a blade of grass, life on earth depends on me

Many are the creatures that I feed, that’s where I fit in

Everything fits in somewhere

Each of us must pull our share

For all living things are connected you see

The plants, the animals, you and me

I am a tall oak tree, life on earth depends on me

Many are those I shelter and feed, that’s where I fit in

I am a timid mouse, life on earth depends on me

I feed on the plants, and their seeds, that’s where I fit in

I am a working ant, life on earth depends on me

I clean up the mess others leave, that’s where I fit in

I am a long black snake, life on earth depends on me

I feed on others, they feed on me, that’s where I fit in

I am a red-tail hawk, life on earth depends on me

I prey on all those smaller than me, that’s where I fit in

I am a simple man, life on earth depends on me

I am the keeper of the land you see, that’s where I fit in

I am the mighty sea, life on earth depends on me

I am home for the fish you see, that’s where I fit in

I am a tiny mosquito, life on earth depends on me

I am food for the fish you see, that’s where I fit in

I am a drop of rain, life on earth depends on me

All living things are made of me, that's where I fit in

The great Okefenokee Swamp is located in South Eastern Georgia.  It covers more than seven hundred and fifty square miles of mostly pristine, and untracked wilderness.   There are a great many islands of all sizes located throughout, most of which are seldom if ever, visited by humans.  I learned, early on, that although the Okefenokee Swamp is called a Swamp, it is not really a swamp at all.  A portion of it is spring fed.  The greater part is dependent upon rainfall.  It's water has a constant South Westerly flow to it.  And it is actually the headwaters of the St Marys, and the famous Suwanee River.

And because the water does move, the whole Okefenokee area is in a constant state of change.  Decaying vegetation floats to the surface of the water, and after a period of time accumulates, creating floating Islands that eventually become solid enough for mighty trees to grow upon them.  In times of drought sometimes new species of plants appear.  Although it is always in a constant state of restlessness and change, living there brought peace to my heart.

I realize that in this writing I have said many times over that,“Every living thing in all of God's Creation plays a role as a good solid member, and participant of Nature's Team.  Every living thing, plant or animal, has been designed perfectly for the job it has been created to do, and it does it's job well.  Some have several duties to perform.”  And further, “Nothing in the natural world ever  shirks or neglects it's responsibilities.  And nothing is ever  wasted!”

We humans did not, and cannot create any of the life around us.  It was all created, and made perfect before we arrived.  It had to be, because we could not live upon the earth, were it not for the efforts and the work of the natural world all around us.  It is the the combined efforts of all of God's living things in nature, that made the earth, and keeps the earth as it is, so that we humans can live comfortably upon it.

Every living or inert thing in the natural world around us on this planet, plant, or animal is connected.   We TOO are connected, as the keepers, the overseers, and the guardians of the earth!  That's where we fit in!
